What is shiftfold?

shiftfold is software for shift planning and volunteer management. Organizations use it to plan shifts for volunteers, members and helpers who sign up and swap shifts on their own. shiftfold is built for situations where many people work voluntarily: festivals and large events, organizations with member shifts, relief efforts and sporting events.

How do I schedule shifts for a large number of volunteers?

With shiftfold, you create areas and shifts and share a link. Your volunteers then sign up on their own. With more than 20 people, that's faster and more reliable than assigning shifts one by one. Anyone who can't make it offers their shift for a swap instead of cancelling. Reminders go out automatically, and you always see where people are still missing.

What makes shiftfold different from a spreadsheet, Doodle or a WhatsApp group?

shiftfold replaces coordination by spreadsheet, poll and group chat with a shift plan that volunteers sign up for themselves.

Spreadsheets, Doodle and WhatsApp work until your operation outgrows them. Past about 20 people, you lose track: Who confirmed? Who can swap? Who even read the message? In shiftfold, volunteers swap shifts among themselves and reminders go out automatically. You see everything in one dashboard.

What's the difference between shiftfold and staff rostering software?

Rostering software plans employees, shiftfold plans volunteers. In a staff roster, managers assign shifts and people have to show up. Volunteers show up because they want to. That's why shiftfold is built around self-service: people pick their own shifts, swap on their own and see where they're needed.

How do I make sure only qualified volunteers take certain shifts?

In shiftfold, you set the required qualification for a shift, such as a first aid course, food hygiene training or a minimum age. Only volunteers with that qualification can then sign up.

Is shiftfold GDPR compliant?

Yes. shiftfold is built for the GDPR from the start. Every organization gets a data processing agreement. There are no ads, no tracking and no data sales.

Do volunteers need an app?

No. shiftfold runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer. Apps for Android and iOS are on the way. Volunteers join through a link or a QR code.

Is shiftfold accessible?

shiftfold is being built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA from the ground up. In practice, that means screen reader support, sufficiently large touch targets, and respect for your system settings like font size, contrast, and reduced motion.

But accessibility is a process, not a checkbox. If you run into difficulties, email us at support@shiftfold.com. Accessibility requests get priority treatment.

If you volunteer your time, you should be able to use the tool that coordinates it.

Who is shiftfold not for?

If you run a roster for ten regulars, a shared calendar is often enough. shiftfold pays off once you no longer know everyone personally: from a few dozen volunteers, several shifts a day, or shifts that require a qualification.

When can I use shiftfold?

shiftfold is in development. We'll announce a launch date once we're sure we can keep it. Sign up for early access and you'll be the first to know.

Early access means a working product, not a demo. There will still be rough edges. Your feedback decides what we build first.
